About

Building a Business for the Long Term

Helms Capital was founded in 2022 by Luke and James after working together for a number of years within one of the UK's largest residential property companies.

During that time, they were involved in the acquisition, management and performance of residential property on a large scale. It gave them first-hand experience of what makes a successful investment, where value can be created and, just as importantly, the mistakes that should be avoided.

With a shared ambition to build something of their own.

They launched Helms Capital with a clear goal: to create a property business focused on buying well, improving assets where possible and building a portfolio that would stand the test of time.

The business began by investing in Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs), recognising the strong demand for high-quality shared accommodation and the long-term returns the sector can offer when it's managed properly. As the business developed, Luke and James returned to the investment strategy they knew best-building a portfolio of carefully selected Buy-to-Let properties that provide reliable income and long-term capital growth.

Since then, the portfolio has continued to evolve. Helms Capital has expanded into the Social Housing sector, working with trusted providers to deliver well-managed homes while creating stable, long-term investments.

While the investment strategies have grown, the philosophy behind the business has remained the same.

We don't buy property for the sake of growing numbers. Every acquisition has to make sense. We look for opportunities where we can improve an asset, whether that's through refurbishment, redevelopment, a change of use or better management. If we believe we can create something better than what was there before, it's worth exploring.

Today, Helms Capital owns and manages a growing portfolio across a range of residential sectors. Every project is another step towards building a business that will continue to grow for decades, not just the next few years.

How We Invest

There isn't a formula that fits every property, which is why we don't limit ourselves to one investment strategy.

Some opportunities are best suited to Buy-to-Let. Others work better as HMOs, Social Housing or Serviced Accommodation. In some cases, the greatest value comes from redevelopment or converting a building into an entirely different use.

Our job is to identify the right strategy for each property rather than making the property fit the strategy.

That flexibility allows us to build a diverse portfolio while staying focused on the same objective-creating quality assets that perform over the long term.

Looking Ahead

Although Helms Capital is still a young business, the ambition has always been much bigger than simply owning property.

We're building a company that is recognised for making sensible investment decisions, delivering quality developments and creating homes that people genuinely want to live in.

As the business continues to grow, we'll keep looking for opportunities that fit our approach, strengthen our portfolio and support the long-term vision that Luke and James set out with back in 2022.
